I’d sworn I’d just fallen asleep when my alarm blared. Peyton shot up next to me, and I fumbled for my phone to shut it off.

“Okay. We seriously need to fix that. One of these mornings, I’m going to have a heart attack.”

I laughed. “Go back to sleep, beautiful.”

“You’re really leaving?”

I kissed her shoulder. “Yeah. Once again I didn’t bring my suit for work, and I need to hit the gym.”

She sighed. “Maybe this weekend you can bring clothes over so you can stay in bed longer and keep me warm.”

I smiled. “I’ll put extra clothes in my car when I go home.”

“Okay,” she replied sleepily.

“I’ll call you later.”

“Hmm …”

I kissed her bare shoulder again and rolled out of bed. It was still dark, but if I didn’t keep my workouts up, I wouldn’t have the stamina I needed to get me through the next few months. It was crazy to think that less sleep would give me more energy, but it was true. Sure I would need to get more sleep tonight, but having the blood pump through my veins as I ran and lifted weights gave me a shit ton of energy.

Plus, I needed to work off that plate of spaghetti.
